Paint Line

The ability to provide a high quality, durable finish on loudspeaker metal components is critical to the Eminence manufacturing operation.  First and foremost, we want to provide our customers with a product that will look good for many years to come.  Equally important is that it is critical for tolerances within the motor structure of a loudspeaker to be exact and that the finish prevents corrosion.

The black epoxy paint, used on every Eminence speaker, covers the entire surface of the basket including the magnet gap.  With the Eminence coating process, the thickness of the coating can be precisely controlled to less than one thousandth of an inch thereby contributing once again to our consistency.

This process is called Electro-coating.  It is economical and extremely environmentally friendly!  Electro-coating is far superior to zinc plating,  favored by many other speaker manufacturers.  Zinc plating only protects underlying steel by first corroding itself.  The effect of this corrosion introduces a very unpredictable variable and, when no zinc remains, the steel can corrode.

The Eminence Electro-coating process includes a six-stage wash that ensures all protective coatings, oils, and undesirable particles are removed from the surface of the components.  The coating will be electrically charged and the parts will have an opposing charge thereby attracting the finish to the parts.  By dipping the parts in a vat of coating material, there is no over-spray or wasted coating.  Obviously, this system eliminates any adverse effects for employees or the environment and is very economical.

Once the coating has been applied, the parts are immediately washed with a final rinse to remove any of the electro-coat bath that is on the component in the form of drops, but not actually attached during the process.

Finally, the coated parts are run through an oven to cure and harden
the coating.  This also allows parts to go immediately from the paint
line and on to final assembly.

For our Genuine Eminence product line we incorporate the precision
e-coat process described above along with a high-quality powder
coat finish to provide the ultimate in precision, appearance and
durability.  Powder coating is currently provided by an outside vendor,
but inspected and approved by our internal quality control epartment.
